NewsNotes – The days are getting longer and the sun is getting warmer and we’re all looking forward to spring!
However, we’re also working hard here at SEi and making some good improvements to The CourtRoom Program.
Program Updates – The most recent version of the program is 1.12.05A. This version includes a major change in
tracking Scoff Lift Fees (or Termination Fees). We’ve also been working hard to make the nCourt process easier.
- Scoff Lift Fees - Up until this new version, Fines Due only showed on a case that used an action code with the
word “Scofflawed” in the text. Not only were you limited in the use of action codes, but you had to keep track of
when a defendant was actually scofflawed at DMV. We’ve added a new feature to the program that keeps track
of the Scofflaw date and allows you to use any action code you want.
In a nutshell, a scoff timer is set on each judge’s screen indicating the number of days until the scofflaw takes
effect at DMV (normally, 37 days). So, when a case is reported to DMV with an “S” in Report Type, the timer
begins on that case. When the 37 days is up, the “Fees Due” appears on the Case Information Screen, regardless
of the action code you used to adjourn the case.
Please Note: You can still use the “Scofflawed” action code, if you prefer. You don’t have to change old
cases using that action code.
You need to update your Fine Notice (modified versions of the original Fine Notice and the Credit Card Fine
Notice are up on the website to be imported). You also need to update Letter head #5. If you need help with this,
please give the office a call. If you use a custom Fine Notice, please give us a call and we’ll help you make the
necessary changes.
- Automatic Backups – In the past you were limited to sending us 3 automatic backups per week. That limit has
been eliminated and you can send a backup every day, if you want. Even though you send us a backup, you
should still be doing a local backup. The easiest way of backing up locally is to get a couple of Flash Drives
(thumb drives, memory sticks – they’re all the same) and call us when you are at the computer. We will help you
setup your system to do local quick, easy local backups.
- DNA Fees – A “Fees Due” message shows on the Case Information screen if the Action Code includes “DNA” in
the text. There is a DNA_Fine_Notice which can be imported from the website which includes the DNA Fee in
the amount due. Give us a call if you need help creating an action code or importing the DNA Fine notice.
The Recent Changes entries dated 2/14, 2/25 and 3/2 explain how to control whether or not the Fees Due
message shows on the screen.
Online Credit Card Payments – There are now about 90 courts using the nCourt online payment system. A few months
ago, SEi and nCourt joined forces to provide defendants the ability to pay their fines, surcharges, and parking tickets online. Please call the office for more information on this exciting feature.
User Group Meetings – We have already held several User Group meetings and there are many more scheduled through
the summer and fall. Last week, we did 2 in the Albany area and 1 in the Syracuse area, with a combined attendance of
nearly 150 people! Please go to our website, HELP->Website Links->Service Education Website and click the Meetings tab to see our
calendar. It is updated regularly as meetings are scheduled. If you decide to go to a meeting, please note the RSVP
information on the calendar and either call or email to let the host know you’ll be attending.
New Address A Final Reminder – Mail is still being sent to our old location. Please update your records with our new address. Our mail forwarding stopped in November, 2011, so all mail to the old address is being returned to you, which results in late maintenance payments.
The new address is:
790 Canning Parkway, Suite -1
Victor, NY 14564
New fax# is 585-924-2379
Closing – That’s all for now from SEi!
